Transfer Office
My purpose for
this poem was to honor Assistant Chief
“Duke” Jahnke, a member of the Houston Fire
Department and a friend and mentor.
He went to be with the Lord on Sept
14, 2003. God’s purpose was a call for
salvation and the result of that call was 40
lives changed at Chief Duke’s funeral.
The bells at the end
represent ‘7-1’. To a firefighter 7 bells
are used to tell all fire companies the fire
is out and to return to the station and 1
bell signifies to be ready for the next
assignment. As tradition, the ‘7-1’ is
played at a firefighter funeral to say “Your
assignment on earth is over, be ready for
your next assignment in Heaven”. |
